The short version
We collect the minimum information needed to deliver the service. We use it only for the purposes described below. We do not sell your personal data. We give you simple, direct ways to access, correct, or delete what we have about you.
If you only read one section, read this one. Everything below is the specific detail backing it up.
Who we are
LaunchVets is a publication and resource library for veteran entrepreneurs operated by Steven Kelly ("we," "us," "LaunchVets"). For any privacy questions, email privacy@launchvets.com.
What we collect
Information you give us directly
- Email address when you subscribe to the Monday Deadlines newsletter or request a personalized assessment result.
- Discovery assessment answers when you complete the assessment. We store these to deliver your personalized result and, when you opt in, to improve our content over time. Until you provide an email, assessment answers are stored only in your browser session and are not associated with any identifier we can use to recognize you.
- Messages you send us via email, contact forms, or the community Discord (when it launches). These remain confidential to the LaunchVets team.
Information we collect automatically
- Basic request information: IP address, browser type, the page you requested, and the page you came from. Our hosting provider (Vercel) and DNS provider (Cloudflare) record this in standard server logs.
- Anonymous usage analytics via Plausible Analytics. Plausible is a privacy-first analytics tool that does not set cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track users across sites. See Plausible's data policy for specifics.
- Local browser storage for the assessment and for remembering your preferences (such as cookie consent). See our Cookie Policy for details.
Information we do not collect
We do not request, store, or process: Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, DD-214 documents (until the community verification flow launches, at which point a separate notice will apply), passwords for third-party services, medical or health information, or protected categories of personal information beyond what you choose to volunteer in communications with us.
How we use your information
- To deliver the Monday Deadlines newsletter and other content you subscribed to.
- To personalize your discovery assessment result and recommend relevant content.
- To respond when you contact us.
- To operate, maintain, and improve the website and its content.
- To comply with legal obligations and protect against abuse.
We do not use your information for behavioral advertising, retargeting, or profile-based marketing. We do not enable cross-site tracking.
Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers necessary to run LaunchVets:
- Beehiiv. Email newsletter delivery. Your subscription email and newsletter-related preferences (such as which path you selected) are stored in Beehiiv's systems. See Beehiiv's privacy policy.
- Vercel. Website hosting. Standard request logs and serverless function execution data. See Vercel's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare. DNS, domain routing, and email forwarding for messages sent to launchvets.com addresses. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Plausible Analytics. Anonymous aggregate page-view analytics. See Plausible's data policy.
We may also disclose information when required by law (such as in response to a valid subpoena or court order) or to protect the rights, property, or safety of LaunchVets, our community, or others.
We do not sell your personal information. We have not sold or shared personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising in the past twelve months and have no plans to do so.
Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you can ask us to:
- Access the personal information we have about you.
- Correct information that is wrong.
- Delete your account and the information we hold.
- Export your information in a portable format.
- Unsubscribe from any newsletter at any time using the link in every email.
Email privacy@launchvets.com with your request. We respond within 30 days. We do not charge for these requests.
If you are in California (CCPA / CPRA)
In addition to the rights above, you have the right to know the categories of personal information we have collected, the sources of that information, the purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it. You also have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.
If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR)
Our lawful basis for processing your information is your consent (for newsletter subscription and the assessment) and our legitimate interest (for operating the website and responding to inquiries). You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
How long we keep information
- Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe, plus a short retention period in our outgoing-mail logs.
- Assessment responses (with email): up to 24 months, after which they are aggregated for content improvement and the personal identifiers removed.
- Anonymous assessment responses (without email): cleared when your browser session ends.
- Email correspondence: as long as needed to address your inquiry, plus reasonable archival.
- Server logs: 30-90 days depending on the provider's default retention.
Security
We rely on industry-standard security practices implemented by Vercel, Cloudflare, Beehiiv, and Supabase (once the data layer launches), including TLS in transit, encryption at rest, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.
Children
LaunchVets is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email privacy@launchvets.com and we will delete it.
International transfers
LaunchVets is operated from the United States. If you access the site from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. We use service providers with appropriate data transfer mechanisms (such as Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable) for international transfers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be announced via the newsletter and a notice at the top of this page. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change.
